I recently received a request on how to do
a floral background, using more than 1 or 2 flowers. When
I explained how to do it, she requested a tutorial as she
felt it would help others out who might have the same question.
This is a fairly quick tutorial, geared to
the Beginner user learning PSP 7. I also show how the program
20/20 makes a tile seamless and muted. Many of us have flower
tubes, and JASC has additional tubes that you can download.
The Spring Flowers that I use in this tutorial is in their
Easter Collection. You can also go to Google, type in floral
tubes in the search box and receive more results than you
will know what to do with LOL.
My tutorials are only guidelines to help
you accomplish a certain creation. Please feel free to be
inventive and take whatever liberties you would like. I encourage
each of you to do your "own thing" and make your
creation yours! Your finished creation is yours to do with
as you please.
This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version
7.04 and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP at a
beginners level. I am sure this can easily be done in Version
6 with a few adjustments in paths but I have only used Version
7 so I can't make promises *S*
FOR THIS TUTORIAL YOU WILL NEED: JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You can get it HERE
Flower tubes ~~ You can additional tubes from JASC HERE
20/20 - You can get it HERE.
This is a stand alone program, NOT a plugin filter.
Step 1:
Open a new image 250x250, 16 million colors, transparent background.Set your foreground color to a "soft" color (I
used #E2B2B2), it doesn't matter what your background color
is. Flood fill your image.
Step 2:
Add a new layer. Open your picture tubes. Scroll to your flowers
section (I have my tubes sorted by category to make it easier
for locating) and choose a flower. For this tutorial I chose
the Spring Flowers from JASC. I set the scale to 75 and applied
a flower.
If you don't care for the flower that is
applied, you can undo it (Ctrl+Z or Edit-->Undo).
Step 3:
Continue adding flowers, adding a new layer for each flower.
This will make it easier for you to move your flowers around.
You can change floral tubes, I didn't stick with just the
Spring Flowers ~~ I used a variety. I eventually ended up
with something like this.
Step 4:
When you are satisfied with your tile, go to Layers-->Merge-->Merge
Visible. Go to Edit-->Copy (Ctrl+C).
Step 5:
To make your tile seamless, open your 20/20 program. Paste
(Ctrl+V) your tile into 20/20. Click on Image on the toolbar.
Click on Seamless Tile.
Your tile magically becomes seamless. This
eliminates the lines on your background.
To mute your tile, click on the Muted Background
button.
Your seamless tile will now appear like this.
There is an opacity slider for you to move to get the desired
opacity you would like for your tile.
When you have your desired opacity, click
apply. Save your floral background in your desired folder.
You're done! Close out 20/20. Go back to PSP and close out
your original image, it is not necessary to save it.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial as much
as I did creating it for you.
