A brand new year and some brand new tutorials. I have definitely fallen for Flaming Pear's Silver Filter that comes with the Designer Sextet Series. In the Designer Sextet Series you get six filters ~~ Aetherize, Glare, Lacquer, Silver, Swerve and Twist. When we finish this frame I will show you what it would look like if you added one of the other filters. This tutorial also uses Visual Manipulation Tools and Alf's Border FX.

One thing I always do when downloading filters is setup a seperate folder in my Plugins Folder and name it what the filter is -- i.e. Sextet; Alf's; VM, etc. Then I unzip the filter into that folder. It makes it much easier to navigate and helps keep you a bit more organized.

This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7.04 and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP and filters at an intermediate level. I am sure this can easily be done in Version 6 with a few adjustments in paths but I have only used Version 7 so I can't make promises *S*

You will need:

JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You can get it HERE
Flaming Pear's Designer Sextet Series ~~ You can get the trial download HERE
VisMan ~~ You can get it HERE

Alf's Border FX filter ~~ You can get it HERE
**unzip these into your folders you have set up in your plugins folder. Both of these filters can be imported into Filters Unlimited if you have it.
My Silver Preset ~~ You can get it HERE

**unzip into your Silver Presets folder in your Sextet Folder
My Inner Bevel Preset ~~ You can download it HERE
**unzip into your PSP Presets Folder

A graphic ~~ I used Galloping Waves by Jim Warren. Mr. Warren has graciously given me permission to use all of his works in my tutorials. You can view his other masterpieces at his website HERE. If you would like to use this graphic please right click and save it to your hard drive.

Remember to save your work often!

Step 1:
Open your image in PSP and make a copy of it (Shift + D). Minimize the original, we will be using it later, and do your work on the copy.

Step 2:
Go to Selections-->Select All (Ctrl+A), Selections-->Modify-->Contract, enter 15 and press OK. Go to Selections-->Float (Ctrl+F).

Step 3:
Go to Effects-->3D-->Cutout and apply the following settings:

Reapply the cutout, but this time change the Vertical offset to Minus 10 and the Horizontal offset to Minus 20. Keep selected and save.

Step 4:
Go to Selections-->Invert. Go to Effects-->Plugins-->Flaming Pear-->Silver. To get to the md-gold preset that I made, click on the red arrow and navigate to your Silver Presets Folder and open the md-gold preset.
Press OK. Keep selected.

Step 5:
Go to Effects-->3D-->Inner Bevel and apply the md-frame1 preset. Deselect and save.

Step 6:
Change your foreground styles to Pattern. In edit, scroll to your original graphic and press OK.

Step 7:
Go to Images-->Borders. Make sure Symmetric is checked and add a border of 20. It doesn't matter what your background color is as we will be flood filling with your pattern. Pick up your magic wand, click the border to get the marching ants around the border and flood fill with your pattern. Keep selected.

Step 8:
Go to Selections-->Invert. Go to Effects--3D-->Cutout and apply your cutout, but change the Opacity to 19 and the blur to 7. Reapply your cutout changing the Vertical offset to Minus 10 and the Horizontal offset to Minus 20. Go to Selections-->Invert. Your marching ants will now be around your border.

Step 9:
Go to Effects-->Plugins-->VMTools-->Instant Tile and apply the default settings. Keep selected.

Step 10:
Go to Effects-->Plugins-->Alf's Border FX-->Mirror Bevel and apply the default settings. Keep selected.

Step 11:
Go to Effects-->Plugins-->VMTools-->Instant Tile and apply the default settings. Keep selected.

Step 12:
Go to Effects-->3D-->Inner Bevel and apply the same md-frame1 preset, deselect and save. You're done!

I tried out all of the other filters that come with the Sextet Series to see what kind of enhancement you might want to make after you finished your frame. Here are some of the results.

Lacquer with Simple Embossing Preset
Aetherize with Faint Color Influences Preset
Glare with Evening Time Preset
Swerve with Jangle Preset
Twist with Vapors Preset
Aetherize ~~ Rolled the dice
