This tutorial was inspired after
joining the Plugin-Party group and playing with different
filters during a challenge. It uses four plugin filters,
Filter Factory A, Filter Factory B, Kangs and Simple
Filters Half Wrap. This tutorial also utilizes PSP's
Geometric Effects Circle and Pinch, and Sharpen.

January 22, 2002 ~~ What a surprise when I opened my mailbox this
morning and found this award from PSP Magic. They
had recently used the Jeweled Inset Tutorial for a weekly lesson and
had a great response from their members. You can see all of their
creations HERE. "Thanks from all of us for the time, effort, and
talent you so willingly share with the PSP community!" ~~ The
PSP Magic Members.
May 2, 2002 ~~ This tutorial was revised for me by MissWabbit.
The Graphics Plus filter that was previously used had a great deal
of controversary with it. I want to thank Miss Wabbit for taking the
time to revise the tutorial for me. Please visit her site HERE.
This tutorial is written in and for
PSP Version 7.04 and assumes you have a working knowledge
of PSP at an intermediate level. It can be easily be done
in Version 6 with a few adjustments in paths. Don't
forget to SAVE your work frequently :)
You will need:
JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You
can get it HERE
Filter Factory A - You can get it HERE
Filter Factory B - You can get it HERE
Kangs Filters - You can get it here HERE
Simple Filters: Half Wrap - You can get it HERE
**You will need to convert the Filter Factory plugins with PICO, available
HERE. If you need help using PICO, Renee
has a great tutorial HERE. If you have Filters Unlimited, import
the filters into there.
A Graphic -- I used the Lone Cypress
that I found at Free Stock Photos. You may
use their graphics as long as you leave their name in the
graphic and/or provide a link. You may use the graphic
provided below. Please right click on the graphic and
save to your hard drive.

Step 1:
Open a new image 300x300, 16 million colors, transparent
background. Set your foreground color to a complimentary
color from your graphic (I used #647D93) and flood fill
your image.
Step 2:
Go to Effects-->Plugins-->Kang2-->the peacock
variations. Apply the default settings.
Step 3:
Go to Effects-->Plugins-->Filter Factory
A>Kaleidoscope II. Apply the default settings.
Step 4:
Go to Effects-->Geometric Effects-->Circle. Go to
Sharpen-->Sharpen. We will be using the sharpen tool
each time we do an effect. Save as Frame. Make a copy of
your image (Shift+D). Save your copied image as Diamond.
We will now begin working with both images. Please make
sure you are on the correct image.
Step 5:
On your Diamond Image go to Effects-->Geometric
Effects-->Circle. Sharpen. Apply your circle one more
time and sharpen. Go to Effects-->Geometric
Effects-->Pinch. Pinch 50% of Effect and Sharpen.
Save.

Go to Images-->Resize and resize
your image by 75%. Make sure Resize All Layers is
UNchecked. Sharpen. Save your diamond image. Go to
Edit-->Copy (Ctrl+C). This will place it in your
clipboard for pasting in a bit.
Step 6:
Activate your Frame Image. Go to
Effects-->Plugins-->Filter Factory B>Starmaker
and apply the following:

Remember the diamond image that we
copied before. Go to Effects-->Paste-->As a New
Layer (Ctrl+L) and it will place your diamond on top of
the star. Save your Frame image.
Step 7:
We are now going to add a drop shadow to the Diamond you
just added to your Frame image. Go to
Effects-->3D-->Drop Shadow and apply the following:

Reapply the drop shadow, but this time
change the vertical and horizontal offsets to -7.
Step 8:
Go to Effects-->Plugins-->Filter Factory B-->Starmaker and
add another star on top of your diamond using these settings:

Step 9:
Go back to your Diamond image and Resize your diamond
75%, Sharpen, Resize again by 75% and Sharpen again. Copy
your diamond and go back to your Frame image and Paste as
a new layer. Add the same drop shadow as above,
remembering to do both the plus and minus 7's.

Step 10:
Go back to your Diamond Image and Resize your diamond by
75% again, Sharpen, Resize by 75% one more time and
sharpen. Copy your newly sized diamond. Activate your
Frame image and paste as a new layer and add the drop
shadow, remembering to do the plus and minus 7's.

Save your Frame image and we are done
with the copying and pasting. Whew! Go to
Layers-->Merge-->Merge Visible. Save.
Step 11:
On your merged Frame image apply Geometric Effects
-->Circle three more times, sharpening after each
application. After you have sharpened the last time,
sharpen once more. This is what you should have done ~~
circle, sharpen, circle, sharpen, circle, sharpen,
sharpen. SAVE. This is now what the Frame image should
now look like this.

Step 12:
Go to Effects-->Plugins-->Simple Filters-->Half
Wrap:

Go to Effects-->3D-->Inner Bevel
and apply the following Inner Bevel to your frame.

Step 13:
Add a new layer. Go to Layers-->Arrange-->Send to
bottom. Maximize your graphic. You might want to make
sure it isn't a lot taller than 300 pixels, height of 350
maximum, (the graphic I used is 341 pixels in height)
otherwise you could get a lot of deforming. If you need
more information regarding resizing your graphics,
without losing clarity, please see my resizing tutorial here. Go to Edit-->Copy
(Ctrl+C) to make a copy of your graphic.
Step 14:
Pick up your magic wand with the tolerance and feather at
0 and go to your Frame image. Make sure you are on the
Merged Layer. With your magic wand click on the middle of
your frame, go to Selections-->Modify-->Expand and
enter 2. On your layer palette activate layer 1. Go to
Edit-->Paste-->Into Selection. Keep Selected. Go to
Selections-->Float and add the following cutout.
(Effects-->3D-->Cutout):

Reapply the cutout, but change the
vertical and horizontal offsets to Minus 4. Deselect and
save. This is what you should have.

Step 15:
Go back to your Diamond image and resize your diamond one
more time by 75% and sharpen it twice. Copy your diamond.
Activate your Frame Image and Paste your Diamond as a new
layer 4 times. Arrange around the top, bottom and each
side. If you would like you can apply the following drop
shadow to each of your little diamonds.

"We're done! Before merging all
your layers together and saving as a .jpg file, you might
want to save your image unmerged in .psp format, the
reason being that you might want to use the frame again
using another image."
Granted, you'll still have your picture there but you
will only need to go to layer 1 and press delete and the
picture will be gone. You can then go to your merged
layer and follow step 14. The frame also colorizes quite
nicely using Harry's Filters, Variations, or PSP's
Colorize option. Here is one that I did by using the
Variation filter.

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial
as much as I have creating it for you.
