After completing the Sinedot Bow tutorial I received several e-mail's
telling me about Rosie Hardman's site. Rosie also has used the Sinedot
filter for Photo Impact and has several wonderful settings for Sinedot
and also a very neat way to save the settings that she already has
found. Although I have found some of the same type settings in my
playing, there were several that I had not. Rosie's Owl settings are
what inspired me to do this tutorial. I do hope you will pay her a
visit HERE.
She also has some very nice backgrounds using Sinedots.
This tutorial, once again, uses Fantastic Machines Paint Engine,
another wonderful invention, and it also uses Eye Candy 4000. I realize
that this is not a free filter and that many of us are on a limited
budget, so I did make a variation using the Eye Candy 4000 Glass which
comes in the Trial Demo. You also receive the trial demo when purchasing
the Anniversary Edition from JASC. This is what the finished creation
using EC4000 Glass looks like:

This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version
7 and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP at an intermediate level.
I am sure this can easily be done in Version 6 with a few adjustments in
paths but I have only used Version 7 so I can't make promises *S*
You will need:
JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You can get it HERE
DragonFly's Sinedot Filter - You can get it HERE
**Unzip to your plugin folder. Make sure you click the Assign Path so you
will be able to see all the presets for when you want to use this filter
again.
Fantastic Machines PaintEngine Filter - You can get it HERE
**Unzip into your plug-ins folder AND also unzip into your C:/Windows
folder to enable the default settings
Eye Candy 4000 ~~ You can purchase it or get the demo version HERE
My Eye Candy Bevel Boss preset ~~ If you are using the full version
of Eye Candy you can get my preset HERE
**unzip into your EyeCandy4000 Settings --> Bevel Boss
A graphic ~~ If you want similar results to mine you will need
a graphic with a picture of someone looking to the side so that you
can mirror it and have them looking at each other. I used Lady In
Pink Headdress and do not know who the artist is. If anyone is aware
of that name,I would appreciate it if you would let me know so I can
write to the artist. If you want to use my graphic please right click
and save to your hard drive.

Step 1:
Open a new image 300 x 300, 16 million colors, transparent background. Set
your foreground to a contrasting color from your graphic and your background
to a darker shade of the same color. I used #DAB0BE for the foreground and
#906265 for the background.
Step 2:
On your color bar set your foreground color to gradient. Choose #1 Foreground-Background
gradient. Flood Fill with your gradient.
Step 3:
Go to Effects-->Plugins-->Fantastic Machines-->Paint Engine and
choose the Texture Streak preset.

Step 4:
Add a new layer and name it Sinedot. Go to Effects-->Plugin-->DragonFly--Sinedots
and use the following settings.

Step 4:
Go to Selections-->Select All (Ctrl+A) and then Selections-->Float
(Ctrl+F) and flood fill with your gradient. Deselect and save.
Step 5:
This is where Eye Candy comes in and I will be giving you both options.
If you are using Eye Candy 4000 then follow step A. If you are using the
Demo version use Step B.
A. Go to Effects-->Plugins-->EyeCandy4000-->Bevel Boss.
In your settings choose MD-Sinedot and click OK to apply. (You did
unzip the file into your Bevel Boss didn't you? *winks*)
B. Go to Effects--Plugins-->EyeCandy4000 Demo-->Glass
In your settings choose Snow and use the default settings. Click
Ok to apply.
That was the only difference in the instructions to this
tutorial. Whichever version of EyeCandy you are using we will all be doing
the same thing until completion.
Step 6:
Open the graphic that you will be using in PSP. Duplicate the graphic and
close the original. I do this out of habit as I don't want to mistakenly
save anything to the original in case I would like to use it again. Pick
up your selections tool and choose Rectangle, Feather 0, antialias UNchecked.
Draw a rectangle around your graphic that you would like in the Owl Frame.
Edit-->Copy (Ctrl+C)

Step 7:
Return to your Sinedot Owl Image. Open your layer palette and activate
layer 1 and add a new layer. I named mine Image. Change your selection
tool to Ellipse and draw an oval in your Owl "Eye". It might
take a few tries to get it just right. It should look similar to this.

Step 8:
Go to Edit-->Paste-->Into Selection (Ctrl+Shift+L). Go to Effects-->Sharpen-->Sharpen.
Step 9:
Go to your Layer Palette and duplicate your Image Layer. Go to Image-->Mirror
and your picture will now mirror into the other "Eye" Go to Effects-->Sharpen-->Sharpen.
Step 10:
Go to Layers-->Merge-->Merge All Visible
Step 11:
I then added a small inner bevel to give it a slight bevel. I used the following
settings:

You're done! This would make a nice border for stationary
or a webpage. Just remember when you resize it to Sharpen. I do hope you
have enjoyed this tutorial as much as I have had creating it for you.
