I received a sampler of Country Woman magazine and
it had this cute little pig magnet in the crafts section. I couldn't
imagine what anyone would do with it, if I tried to recreate it and
write a tutorial, until I was describing it to Beckie. She thought
it would make a great sigtag for one thing so I set out to recreate
it.
This tutorial will be using only PSP tools. We will
be creating our own vector heart (oh dear! I hear some gasps in the
audience) and saving the heart to our preset shapes. This is a good
learning tutorial and will have a lot of screenshots. I have reduced
and optimized the screenshots for faster loading.
This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7.04
and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP at an intermediate
level. I am sure this can easily be done in Version 6 with a few adjustments
in paths but I have only used Version 7 so I can't make promises *S*
JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You can get it HERE
As an option I do use EyeCandy4000 Glass when doing the eyes. I show
both the cutout and the glass settings. EyeCandy4000 Glass is part
of the demo download and you can try it out HERE.
Please SAVE your work often!!
Step 1:
Open a new image, 400x400, transparent background, 16 million colors.
This is a large canvas size, but we need room to work and we will
resize it later. Set your foreground to NULL and your background
to a pink. I used #F3C3C3. Open your preset shapes,
,
set to Ellipse, Create as Vector CHECKED.

Draw out a large round ellipse in the middle of your
screen.

Activate your Object Selector tool
and click on Node Edit in your Tool Options.

Click on the bottom node and move in each side so
it creates a point at the bottom of your ellipse.

Click on your top node and move it down a little
ways into the ellipse. Move the ends up as illustrated below. Play
around with it until you are happy with your heart shape.

When you are satisfied with your heart shape, right
click and Quit Node Editing.

Step 2:
Before we convert our heart to a Raster Layer, we want to Export it
to our Preset Shapes. The first thing you want to do is go to your
layer palette and click on the plus sign next to layer2. It will say
Ellipse. Double click the Ellipse, vector properties will come up
and rename your ellipse. I named mine md-heart ~~ that was original
wasn't it? LOL

We will be using our heart later in this lesson.
Go to Files-->Export-->Shape. A warning will come up, click
on OK. It will then ask you to enter the file name. Name it the same
as what you entered in the vector properties. Now open your preset
shapes and scroll down until you see your shape. This will assure
you that you exported it properly and you will know where to go find
it when we need it later.

Step 3:
Okay, we have the hard part done now, *Grin*, and it wasn't really
that hard was it? Go to Layers-->Convert to Raster and rename your
layer head. Go to Images-->Flip. Now we have our head! Go to Effects-->Noise
and enter 5, Uniform.

Go to Effects-->3D--Inner Bevel and apply the
following settings:

Go to Effects-->3D--Drop Shadow and apply the
following settings:

Save your work.
Step 4:
Add a new layer, name it nose. Pick up your preset shapes, set at
Ellipse and UNcheck Create as Vector. (I hear sighs of relief don't
I?) Holding down your shift key draw a large circle in the middle
of your head layer.

Step 5:
Go to Selections-->Select All (Ctrl+A). Selections-->Float(Ctrl+F)
Selections-->Defloat (Ctrl+Shift+F). It is VERY important that
you do it this way or you won't be able to apply the OUTER bevel.
Go to Effects-->3D-->Outer Bevel and apply the following settings:

Add your drop shadow, but change the Opacity to 65
and the blur to 19.8. Save.

Step 6:
Add a new layer, name it nostrils. Set your foreground AND background
color to black. Open your text, set at Arial, size 28, Bold, Centered,
Floating and Antialias Checked and type in a comma.

While it is floating move it to the middle right
of your nose. Deselect when you are happy where it is placed. Go to
Edit-->Copy (Ctrl+C). Edit-->Paste-->As New Selection (Ctrl+E).
With your mover tool move it next to your first nostril, go to Images-->Mirror.
You may have to move it again, if so, move it while it is still selected.
When you are happy Deselect and Save.

Step 7:
We are now going to merge our nose and nostrils. Activate your layer
palette, click on the glasses on layer1 and the head layer. A red
X will appear on those two layers. Activate the nostril layer, go
to Layers-->Merge-->Merge Visible. Rename your layer nose.
Step 8:
Activate your head layer and add a new layer, name it cheeks. Set
your foreground color to a darker pink. I used #DD5B5B. Set your background
to NULL. Pick up your Air Brush tool,
,
and use the following settings.

Dab on each side of his nose. Go to Effects-->Blur-->Gaussian
Blur and enter the number 12.

Save.
