In
PSP8 you can
now do character
formatting on
your text without
it having to
be a vector text.
This tutorial
will show you
how to achieve
this by using
floating text
using V8. You
can select different
characters and
change the size,
font, or color
of those characters.
My
tutorials are
only guidelines
to help you accomplish
a certain creation.
Please feel free
to be inventive
and take whatever
liberties you
would like. I
encourage each
of you to do
your "own
thing" and
make your creation
yours! Your finished
creation is yours
to do with as
you please.
Screenshots
are resized and
compressed for
faster loading.
Don't forget
to SAVE your
work often.
This
tutorial is written
in and for PSP8
and assumes you
have a working
knowledge of
PSP.
FOR THIS TUTORIAL
YOU WILL NEED:
JASC's
PSP8 (30 day
free trial) -
You can get it
HERE
1.
Open a new image
250x250, transparent
background. I
used a transparent
background because
I wasn't sure
what I wanted
the background
to be yet. If
you know what
your background
is, feel free
to use that now.
Set your foreground
materials palette
to null and your
background to
the color, pattern,
or gradient you
wish to use.
I chose a red
for my initial
color.

Step
2:
Add a new raster
layer (layers/new
raster layer)
name it text.
Activate your
text tool, ,
and your tool
options will
change to text.
Create as floating,
choose your font
and size. I used
the Garton font
size 30. Antialias
is checked.

Step
3:
Click on your
canvas and your
text entry box
will appear.
Type in your
text. Do not
apply yet.
*Tip
~ When using
the text entry
box you will
need to look
on your image
to see how the
actual text will
appear. This
is different
from PSP7.

Step
4:
Hilight any letters
that you want
to change. For
this tutorial
I chose the ig.

Go
to your tool
options box and
change the font.
I changed my
font to 48.

Step
5:
I then decided
I wanted to change
the color of
Moon's, so I
highlighted the
Moon's

Go
to your material
palette and change
your background
color, pattern
or gradient to
what you would
like to change
it to. I chose
a blue.

Step
6:
Once you have
made whatever
changes you would
like to your
text you may
hit apply. I
added a drop
shadow to my
text, if you
would like to
do the same keep
your text selected
and go to Effects//3D
Effects/Drop
Shadow. I used
the following
settings:

(Vertical Offset=1;
Horizontal Offset=4;
Opacity=63; Blur=2.97;
Color=Black;
Shadow on a new
layer checked)
Deselect
(Ctrl+D or Selections/Select
None). Save.
This is how my
text turned out.

You
can also make
these changes
using vector
text. Create
as vector on
your tool options
bar. After you
apply your text
go to your layer
palette and click
on your text.

Right
click and chose
edit text.

You
may then hilight
and change whatever
you would like,
as we did above.
Let's move on
to Vector Text.
