Congratulations!
You have decided
to give JASC's
Paint Shop Pro
8 a test drive.
This will be
an ongoing tutorial
to help you locate
new features
and where old
features are
now located.

This
tutorial is written
in and for PSP8
and assumes you
have a working
knowledge of
PSP.
YOU WILL
NEED:
JASC's
PSP8 (30 day
free trial) -
You can get it
HERE
One
of the things
that I have encouraged
new people using
PSP7 is to set
up folders, outside
of PSP, to store
their extra supplies
and goodies that
they find on
the Net and create
themselves. JASC
now does this
for you! When
you do your install,
V8 places a folder,
called "My
PSP8 Files",
in My Documents.
If you would
like to have
these folders
placed in another
location on your
hard drive (or
a separate hard
drive) you can
do this during
the Installation.
If you are changing
locations make
sure you set
up a folder called
MyPSP8Folders
in that location
first.

Browse
to where you
would like your
folders to go
to and click
okay.

I
put mine on my
other hard drive
and then navigated
to my MyPSP8Folders
folder.

The
first time that
you start up
PSP8 you will
have a file associations
window appear.
You can either
select them all
of choose the
ones that you
want associated
to open in PSP8.
V8
is completely
customizable
to your liking.
Not only can
you customize
existing toolbars,
you can create
new toolbars
and menus. You
can configure
Keyboard shortcuts
to your liking.
Toolbars are
dockable or undockable
and have them
roll up, the
choice is yours.
Once you have
your V8 the way
YOU want it you
can save the
workspace to
be readily available
to load if you
uninstall and
reinstall PSP8
- which you will
be doing frequently
during the Beta.
You can create
several different
workspaces for
the type of project
you are working
on - having only
what you need
for each individual
type. You could
have a painting
workspace, tubing
workspace, image
editing workspace,
the possibilities
are endless.
The
default workspace
looks like this:

The
learning center
is a great place
to get started
and check out
some of the new
and improved
features in V8.
It is one of
the dockable
palettes, so
you can dock
it where you
would like on
your workspace
for easy access.
To
customize your
toolbars, menus,
etc., go to View/Customize
and this screen
will appear.

All
toolbar buttons
are listed by
category in the
same order as
your menus. To
add a new toolbar
button or menu
item, click on
the item in the
Commands list
and drag it up
to where you
would like it.
If you would
like to remove
a toolbar button
or menu item,
go to that toolbar
or menu and drag
it down and into
the commands
box.
To
add a new menu,
scroll down the
categories until
you reach New
Menu. Highlight
the new menu
and drag it up
to a blank area
with the rest
of your menus.

To
rename your New
Menu, right click
on it and choose
Menu Text...a
window will popup
for you to name
your menu.

Click
on the Toolbars
tab. Here is
where you can
select which
toolbars that
you would like
to be visible,
and also where
you can add a
new toolbar.
To add a new
toolbar, click
new.

You
will then get
a pop up box
asking for you
to name the toolbar.

Click
OK and a new
toolbar is created
for you - drag
it to where you
would like it
placed on your
UI (Users Interface).
Return to the
Commands tab
and start dragging
the buttons you
would like on
YOUR tool.
Click on
the Keyboard
tab. Here is
where you can
set a New Shortcut
Key and check
to see if that
shortcut is being
used in another
function. Go
to the category,
highlight the
command, press
a new shortcut
key, and it will
show if that
shortcut is assigned
elsewhere. If
it isn't then
press Assign.
As you can see,
I assigned Shift+2
to Save As.

The Menu
tab isn't one
that I have explored
very much, to
be honest with
you. However
you can set Menu
animations to
Unfold, Slide
or Fade.

Click on
the Options tab
and you can check
or uncheck various
options for your
Toolbar, Personalized
Menus and Toolbars
and your Palettes.
Checking the
show recently
used commands
first, under
Personalized
Menus, can be
very handy if
there is one
or two commands
that you use
frequently.

Let's
move on to our
Menu's and Tool's.
Please remember
that the tools
and menus are
a work in progress.
I now have this
linked but am
still working
on the page.
I wanted all
to see what is
available at
this point though.
If
you have any
problems, comments
or questions
please do not
hesitate to E-mail
me.
