This
tutorial is written
in and for PSP8,
and assumes you
have a working
knowledge of
PSP.
While
you can do Character
Text Formatting
on a floating
text, once you
have made any
changes to your
text and applied
your text you
cannot go back
and change it.
Creating text
as a vector allows
you to make changes
to the text at
any time and
it is a bit more
versatile. As
long as you haven't
converted your
vector text layer
to a raster layer
you can play
as much as you
want, whenever
you want ~smiles~.
Let's see what
we can do with
Vector Text.
Step
1:
Open a new image
400x200 transparent
background. Click
on the text tool.
On your tool
ribbon select
Vector, anti-alias
checked. Choose
the font and
size you want.
I used Ariel
with the size
of 30.

Step
2:
Choose your background
color on your
material palette,
foreground doesn't
matter as long
as you have stroke
width set to
0.0. I chose
a dark purple
for this tutorial.

Step
3:
Click on your
image and your
text dialog box
will appear.
Type in your
text. Click Apply.

Step
4:
Your text will
now appear inside
of a box with
nodes.

•
To move vector
text grab the
center handle
and drag to where
you would like
to position your
text.

•
To make
your text taller
or smaller grab
the top or bottom
center node and
move up or down.

•
You can
make your text
horizontally
longer or shorter
by pushing in
or pulling out
on the middle
side node.

•
To rotate
your text, grab
the middle handle
to the right
of the center
node and pull
the text the
way you want
it to rotate.
•
You can
slant your vector
text by holding
down your shift
key and clicking
on the top center
handle and pulling
it to the left
or right.
Step
5:
You can change
the colors or
outline of your
entire text or
you can change
each individual
letter, just
as we did in
the character
formatting text
tutorial,
even though we
have applied
our text. This
is one of the
pluses about
creating your
text as a vector.
You can edit
text by clicking
on the vector
text, right clicking
with any vector
tool, double
clicking on the
vector text,
or right clicking
on the vector
text and choosing
edit text.

When
you're done with
all of your text
editing, right
click on your
Vector Layer
and choose Convert
To Raster Layer.

Step
6:
After you convert
your text to
a Raster Layer,
you can add a
drop shadow if
you like. Go
to Effects-->3D-->Drop
Shadow. You can
use my settings
if you like or
play around with
your own settings.

I
hope you enjoyed
this lesson on
Vector Text as
much as I enjoyed
creating it for
you. Next is

To Curves. Click
