One of the new filters in PSP9 is called Digital
Camera Noise Removal, which as you can see above works wonders on
removing noise that you can get when using a digital camera. There
are many ways that you can use this filter, however I won't be going
into full detail at this time. I did want you to see how you can improve
on those photos that have some noise on them.
The picture that I am using is one that I took
on my computer using the TV hookup that Larry set up for me. I don't
spend a lot of time watching Soap Opera's, however one of my favorite
is Guiding Light and this is one that I snapped of Beth Ehlers - who
plays Harley Cooper on the show.

As you can see by the original picture, above,
there is a tremendous amount of noise artifacts on the entire photo.
While you could use the Moire´ Pattern Removal or the JPEG Artifact
removal tools, they just don't do as nice of a job as the DCNR.
You can find the DCNR by going to your Adjust
menu/Photo Fix/Digital Camera Noise Removal Tool.

When you open the DCNR you will have this dialog
box.

As you can see there are a number of different
settings, sampling regions and a protect image tab which I will get
into further with a tutorial and of course on the upcoming PSP9 CD
set. I used just the default settings to get the results below.

As you can see the noise has been removed, Beth
has a smoother appearance, and the fine details of the picture were
retained. I also changed the Noise Correction settings from 50 to
35 to achieve this result.

Not a tremendous amount of difference, however
it did brighten her face a bit.
I hope this helps to show you a bit of what
you can achieve by using the DCNR.
