I have had several requests for more "How-to" tutorials, as people enjoy the way I explain how to attain certain effects. One of the most requested is how I do my copyright watermark. I have put off doing such a tutorial, as I feel there are many excellent ones out there on the Internet. However, I needed to make my copyright watermark for 2003 and thought this would be a good time to do the tutorial. I can't believe how fast the time goes by and that it will soon be another year!

In order to save download and printing, I have thumbnails of the screenshots. If you click on the thumbnail it will take you to a large version of the screenshot. This is something new that I am doing and would appreciate your comments and feedback. Don't forget to SAVE your work often.

My tutorials are only guidelines to help you accomplish a certain creation. Please feel free to be inventive and take whatever liberties you would like. I encourage each of you to do your "own thing" and make your creation yours! Your finished creation is yours to do with as you please.

This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7.04 and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP at a beginners level. I am sure this can easily be done in Version 6 with a few adjustments in paths but I have only used Version 7 so I can't make promises *S*

FOR THIS TUTORIAL YOU WILL NEED:
JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You can get it HERE

Step 1:
Open a new image 275x50, 16 million colors, transparent background. Set your foreground color to Null and your background color to White. Activate your text tool, and click on your image. I used the Georgia Font, at 14 points. Not all fonts will create the © symbol, so you may have to experiment with different fonts. I made mine Italic lettering, this is entirely up to you. Make sure you have floating and antialias checked. See the screenshot below - click on the thumbnail to see a larger version.

Step 2:
While having the text activated, hold down the Alt key and type in 0169 on the number keypad. You must use the number keypad, on the far right side of your keyboard, to make this work. After your copyright symbol type in the name you will be using. I obviously used Moon's Designs 2003. I wanted to include the year. I have done this every year for the past 3. Click OK.

Step 3:
It looks pretty stark and naked, so I added a slight drop shadow. Go to Effects-->3D-->Drop Shadow and apply the following settings:

(vertical offset=1; horizontal offset=2; opacity=100; blur=1.2)

Much better don't you think?

Step 4:
I export my watermarks to tubes. This way it is always accessible to me when I need to use it. Depending on how large your watermark is and how much transparency is left, you will more than likely need to crop your image. Activate your crop tool, , and draw a tight rectangle around your watermark.

To crop your image, either double click on your image or go to your tool options box and click Crop Image.

Step 5:
You are now ready to export your copyright watermark as a tube. Go to File-->Export-->Picture Tube

Step 6:
Type in the name of your tube and leave the default settings as they appear.

Step 7:
Once I have my creation how I want it, I add a new layer. I thin activate my picture tubes tool, , and navigate to my watermark. Depending on how large your creation is, you may need to resize your tube.

Step 8:
By having your watermark on it's own layer, you can rotate it if you prefer. One thing that I do is go to my layer palette and change the blend setting to Soft Light. This way it still shows that it is YOUR creation, but it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb *grins*.

You now have your creation copyright watermarked to you!

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial as much as I did creating it for you.
